Borderlines[Movement]Â is the second in a three-part exhibition series spanning three spaces and eight artists across three states and two countries. These exhibitions grew out of an artist residency program held last summer that fostered collaborative conversation over shared places and experiences.Â
Â
Where the first exhibition, BORDERLINES [Home], explored rootedness, belonging, and the politics of inhabiting/habitation, BORDERLINES [Movement] shifts focus to the constant flow of life through the borderlands — the steady, rhythmic motion of people, thoughts, stories, goods, and dreams across desert and river, fence and sky.
Â
The works in this exhibition are not stagnant objects. They are part of a conversation in motion: between artists and land, between past and present, between communities navigating the edges of layered histories and urgent futures.
Curated by Leslie Moody Castro and featuring work by Camila Abbud, Sharbani Das Gupta, Isadora Jackson, Nathan Makenzie Arriaga Smith, Alonso Robles, Laura Turón, and Matthew Villarreal.
Opening Day Events:Â June 4, 2025
Ceremonial Sweeping | 4pm Â
This ceremony invites participants to symbolically sweep the gallery floor — clearing away fragmented energy and gathering generosity and hope into a shared center. Rooted in ancestral traditions of spiritual and domestic care, sweeping here becomes a collective gesture of artistic preparation: making space for healing, seeding meaningful conversation, and honoring shared memory.
Sotol & Conversation | 5-7pm
Hosted by Matthew Villarreal and Nathan Smith.
Join us for conversation, connection, and taste. Guests are invited to share in refreshments that reflect the richness of flavor and spirit of generosity found along the US-Mexico border — including regional beverages and handmade bites that celebrate the Chihuahuan Desert’s bounty and cultural richness. Enjoy offerings such as sotol, tequila, local wines, and handmade tortillas with fresh salsas.
Â
Closing Day Events: July 28, 2025
Closing Reception | 5-7pmÂ
Gallery Hours: Open daily 12:00–6:00 p.m. and late Thursday evenings until 8:00 p.m.; closed all major holidays and holiday eves.
