The Block Party at The New School is a vibrant campus tradition that has been going on for more than 20 years (29 years as of Fall 2026). It is an event that brings together students, faculty, staff, and the local community as a celebration to the start of a new academic year. Held annually, this event transforms the university’s surroundings on 12th street between 5th and 6th avenue into a festive hub of activities, live music, art installations, food vendors, and so much more. It serves as a unique platform for showcasing the diverse talents and innovative spirit of The New School community, fostering connections and creating lasting memories. Whether you’re a new/returning student or a seasoned faculty/staff member, the block party is a highly anticipated occasion that embodies the inclusive and dynamic culture of The New School.

Join us this year on Thursday, August 27th, 2026 from 4:30pm-7:30pm for our 29th Annual Block Party during our Fall 2026 Welcome Week. We will be located on West 12th street between 5th and 6th Avenue.
