Join us for a discussion of recent works on food workers and labor justice. Dr. Laura-Anne Minkoff-Zern (Syracuse University) and Dr. Teresa Mares (University of Vermont) will present their upcoming publication Will Work for Food: Labor Across the Food Chain (University of California Press, 2025), which explores the role of frontline workers across the food chain. Dr. Lori Flores (Columbia University) will discuss themes from her books Grounds for Dreaming: Mexican Americans, Mexican Immigrants, and the California Farmworker Movement (Yale University Press, 2016) and Awaiting Their Feast: Latinx Food Workers and Activism from World War II to COVID-19 (UNC Press, 2025). Dr. Julie Weise (University of Oregon) will discuss her book Corazón de Dixie: Mexicanos in the U.S. South since 1910 (UNC Press, 2015) and her forthcoming Guest Worker: Lives across Borders in an Age of Prosperity (UNC Press).
This event is part of a week-long seminar organized at The New School that fosters collaborative work between scholars in the US and France working on agricultural labor.
