Supporting Ordinary Citizens in a Global Economic Crisis:

What The World Can Learn From Kosova

Over the past four years, Prime Minister Albin Kurti and the Kosova Government have spearheaded a significant expansion of social programs in support of ordinary citizens, families, and small businesses. According to the World Bank, this included the largest aid package in the region as a percentage of GDP, to help citizens cope with the global cost-of-living and energy crises. And yet, defying expectations, Kosova has managed to implement these new social policies without increasing taxes or public debt – in fact, it has reduced borrowing costs and now has the lowest public-debt-to-GDP ratio in Europe.

In a keynote address by Prime Minister Kurti followed by an interview by Zolberg Institute Senior Research Fellow Leah Zamore, this unique event on the sidelines of UNGA High Level Week will explore the key ingredients of Kosova's success over the past four years, attempting to extract concrete lessons for other countries.

Prime Minister Kurti will also discuss his Government's plans for a further expansion of support for Kosova's citizens, at a time when the world continues to struggle against economic headwinds.

Following the address and interview, Prime Minister Kurti will take questions directly from the audience.

Presented by the Zolberg Institute on Migration and Mobility at The New School for Social Research and The New School.
