The New School’s 86th Annual University Commencement Ceremony and Festival will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. EDT on the grounds of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
We invite graduates, their families and friends, students, faculty, staff, and alumni to join us for this celebration. Alumni can register for this event by visiting the Alumni Specific Hub.
If you’re unable to attend the ceremony in person, you can join virtually on the day of the event through Livestream, which will be accessible on this page.

To attend, all guests must wear a face mask indoors at all times, and all guests age five and older must provide one of the following forms of documentation:
• Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination and booster if eligible (vaccination includes all WHO and FDA approved vaccines), or
• A negative COVID-19 test (A negative PCR within 3 days—5/17 or after—or same-day rapid antigen test administered by a medical professional). Self-administered, at-home rapid tests will not be accepted.
A valid New School ID (or green clearance badge from the The New School Student Health Services portal) is sufficient health and safety documentation for graduating students. For more information about our COVID-19 policies, please review our Commencement COVID-19 Protocols and FAQs document.
The USTA is an accessible venue. If you have any special requests, please fill out this form or email commencement@newschool.edu.

Students and guests may register for up to six tickets at a time for the University Commencement event. If you require more than six tickets, you are welcome to submit the registration form again.
I registered or was registered to be a guest at an event but I didn’t receive a confirmation email or PDF with a QR code.
If you are a guest and don’t recall receiving a registration confirmation PDF but know you are signed up, check with the person who registered for you as they are the only one who received all the confirmations.
If you registered for yourself and additional guests, be sure to forward the confirmation PDFs with QR codes to your guests. They would otherwise not have received any confirmation emails or PDFs.
There are two entry points to the stadium: the East Gate and the South Gate. Whether you arrive by mass transit or by car, there will be plenty of directional signage and volunteer greeters once you are within close proximity of the stadium.
By Subway:
The 7 train provides service from Grand Central Terminal to Mets-Willets Point Station, including connections for all Metro-North Trains from Westchester and Connecticut. Service is also available from the Port Authority Bus Terminal. The subway schedule can be found here.
By Long Island Rail Road:
LIRR provides easy service to Mets-Willets Point Station from Woodside, and convenient connections from Penn Station for New Jersey Transit customers. Guests in need of an accessible station should exit the LIRR train at 61st Street-Woodside Station and transfer to the 7 subway train. Take the 7 train to Mets-Willets Point Station. The LIRR schedule can be found here.
By Car (with the intention to park):
Guests who are planning to drive and park their cars should use the Southfield Park Lot. We recommend taking either the Grand Central Parkway exit 9E, Whitestone Expressway Exit 13D, or Long Island Expressway Exit 22B - College Point Blvd. From there you will be directed by Traffic Team Members and NYPD to the Southfield Parking Lot.
1. Proof of vaccination and booster, or negative COVID test, or valid New School ID. See the Health and Safety section below for more details.
2. QR code on registration confirmation PDF. If you are a guest and don’t recall receiving a registration confirmation PDF but know you are signed up, check with the person who registered for you as they are the only one who received all the confirmations.

Acceptable proof of vaccination includes, but is not limited, to the following:
1. CDC COVID-19 Vaccine Card

3. Documentation provided by a health care professional/organization/country. A negative test result must be in the form of written documentation (paper or digital copy).

2. Entity issuing the result (e.g., laboratory, healthcare entity, or telehealth service)

*Note: Photographs of self-administered at-home tests will not be accepted. All documentation must be provided in English or accompanied by a certified translation.
Guests who are unable to produce either of the accepted form of documentation will not be permitted to enter ceremonies at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center and are encouraged to participate in Commencement by watching our livestream. All events hosted on campus at The New School continue to be subject to university policy, which requires guests to be up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccination.
You can find and make an appointment using the US or NYC vaccine finder. You will need to show your proof of primary series vaccination (in English) to receive your booster shot.
You can find testing locations on the NYC Department of Health website, including locations for free rapid testing in New York City.
